AWC Goes One-on-One with Hispanic Marketing Expert Kelly McDonald

Marketing to Hispanics: The Nuts and Bolts
By Regina L. Burns, AWC Website Chair

Successfully marketing to Hispanics is a complex process but don't let another second pass before you get started, or your company will be left out.

That's the advice of Kelly McDonald, president of Dallas-based McDonald Marketing, one of the country's top Hispanic ad agencies.

She was the featured speaker at the Jan. 28, 2010 AWC Dallas luncheon held at Neiman Marcus Café. Her topic was "Relating, Not Translating: How to Market to U.S. Latinos."

McDonald shared additional insights during an interview on Feb. 1, 2010 at her office. Click to hear a report. And she related an incident that earned her company new translation business from Popeyes Chicken. Listen.

McDonald told stories about how to successfully market to Hispanics and offered insight into the Hispanic culture. And she backed it up with statistics.

"The bilingual child in the monolingual family has great power (when it comes to making purchasing decisions)," McDonald told luncheon attendees.

"One in three people in Texas are Hispanic," McDonald said.

Furthermore, it's believed the 2010 Census will reveal there are 50 million Hispanics in the U.S., which McDonald said would be breaking news because companies that haven't embraced this demographic would be stampeding to do so.
