| Annual Awards Luncheon Honors Outstanding Dallas Communicators |

Distinguished communicators gathered at the annual awards luncheon of the Association for Women in Communications Dallas Professional Chapter on Saturday, April 17, 2010. The event took place at the House of Blues Dallas in the historic White Swan Building. Kris Boyd, the host and managing editor of KERA-FM’s flagship midday talk show “Think,” served as the event's emcee. Boyd was the recipient of AWC’s Outstanding Dallas Communicator award in 2009. Keynote speaker was veteran financial journalist Karen Blumenthal, who writes the “Getting Going” personal finance column for The Wall Street Journal. Ms. Blumenthal has been a financial journalist for more than 25 years. In more than two decades with the Journal, she has been a reporter, editor and Dallas bureau chief, and was part of the Sept. 11, 2001, team that won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize. Ms. Blumenthal is also the author of Grande Expectations: A Year in the Life of Starbucks’ Stock, which was named one of the five best investing reads of 2007 by Kiplinger’s magazine. Her presentation, titled "How I Got Burned by Beanie Babies", gave attendees a new understanding about how to recognize and respond to financial bubbles.
